Research Fellow in Marine Trace Metal Biogeochemistry Marine Biogeochemistry Location:  National Oceanography Centre Southampton Salary:   £28,982 to £30,738 per annum Full Time, Fixed Term until 30/06/2019 Closing Date:   Friday 02 September 2016 Reference:  740816HN Interview Date: Inteerviews to be held week commencing 19/09/2016 This position is available from 02 January 2017 We have an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher to join our multidisciplinary study of ‘Zinc, iron and phosphorus co-limitation in the ocean’ (ZIPLOc). Recently funded by Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), ZIPLOc is a UK-based project between the Universities of Southampton and Liverpool with strong collaborative links to partners at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (USA), Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences (USA) and Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environment (France). Our aim is to combine novel observational and modelling experiments to quantify how phosphorus, zinc and iron co-limitation affects contemporary and future biological productivity. You will be responsible for measurement of the trace metals iron and zinc in the ocean and during bioassay experiments and trace metal cell quotas. This post requires a candidate with experience in trace metal biogeochemistry and the measurement of dissolved iron and zinc in oceanic samples as well as setting up incubation experiments on-board ship to explore the zinc-phosphorus and iron-phosphorus co-limitation. At University of Southampton, you will have access to a world-class range of analytical equipment and associated clean laboratories and instruments, allowing you to undertake trace element speciation, flow injection measurements and isotope dilution ICP-MS work. This observational post requires a PhD (or equivalent) in biogeochemical or chemical oceanography along with a publication record appropriate to your research experience. You will have experience of sample collection at sea, clean lab methodologies and analysis of dissolved trace elements.
